Squarespace comes with a built-in metrics tracker: Squarespace Metrics. It gives you the basics i.e. how many people have visited your site, where they came from etc. Google Analytics gives you much more detailed and customizable information about your blog and readers. Want to know the busiest day of the week for your blog or what page people are exiting on? Google Analytics is your guy! Today I just wanted to give you a super simple, visual guide to getting Google Analytics set up. I'll be covering Google Analytics more in depth with tips and tricks in an upcoming post, so keep a lookout!
The first thing you need to do is get your Google Analytics tracking code. Navigate to Google Analytics and click on the Admin panel.
Under Property click in Property Settings.
Find your Tracking ID under Property Settings. Copy this number, it will look something like UA-XXXXXXXX-X.
Navigate to the backend of your Squarespace site. You can go to your domain and press the escape key on your keyboard.
Click on Settings.
Click on Advanced.
Click on External Services.
Paste your Google Analytics tracking code into the Google Analytics Account Number field and click save. It can take up to 48 hours for your site to begin appearing in the Google Analytics dashboard.
That's it, easy peasy! You are all set to start tracking all kinds of awesome metrics and analytics.
